At heart this is a great love story! - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

Ron Howard brings us a love story about a real life Nobel Prize winning scientist John Nash. This movie is well delivered,at times mesmerizing, the story losely based on the real life of John Nash.At heart this is a well crafted, very griping and beautifuly acted love story.Russell Crowe recieved rave reviews as did Jennifer Connelly in her Oscar winning role, and for me at least I'am fully behind Connellys win as I felt she stole the show in many aspects and really is the glue that makes this movie work. After you watch A Beatiful Mind find yourself a copy of the biography film of John Nashs real life which is an incredible tale which at least equals the fictional story, both are absolute must sees!

A beautiful and brilliant mind - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

"A Beautiful Mind" is the story of brilliant mathematician John Nash. The film could be described as a documentary of sorts based on its direct look into Nash's life. The movie presents a side of someone's life in which many of us never get to experience. It shows the struggles that many people have to live with each and every day. Russell Crowe gives the performance of his lifetime in the movie. Anyone viewing "A Beautiful Mind" for the very first time will be filled with emotions and respect for those who have to live with severe medical conditions.

A beautiful picture - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

schizophrenia as you've never seen it before in a film , i saw a documentary about the real john nash and his son who inherited the desease from his father and all i can tell is god bless any person suffering from this horrible desease. the movie is pretty realistic (forget about the farrely brothers's idea of schizophrenia in me myself and irene ). the cast did a wonderful job especially the leading couple connelly and crowe . "a beautiful mind" is one of my favourtie movies.

Psychological greatness! - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

this movie is really great psychocologically. there are a lot of people who actually are like this man, and letting viewers see it from his point of view is an effective way to show how he feels, and how everything seems so real to him. a lot of movies try to be like this one, but for some reason, this one just hits you harder and it really is an amazing movie.

A beautiful story - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

This was a great movie. Russel Crow was a magnificent man to pick for the part. I need to see it again because it has been quite sometime since i have seen it but from what i remember it was awesome!

A masterpiece! - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

You need not have a beautiful mind to appreciate the beautiful acting in this movie. Crowe and Connely have delivered one of the most outstanding performances of their lives. Every aspect of this movie, the acting, direction, dialogue, picturisation, etc. was outstanding to such an extent that an Oscar was inevitable.

A beautiful film - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

The acting here is superve!!! Maximus my ass!!! Nash is the true Oscar winner! But, anyway... Ron Howard did a great job directing this film... It is just that... An anatomy of a beautiful mind!

Beautiful from start to finish - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

I give Russell Crow an A+ for his part in this film; He was simply amazing as a genus that has a disease that makes him create people that are not there. This fabulous story tells John Nash?s achievements, and struggles throughout his life. Very well told and entertaining the whole movie. This movie might not be good for younger viewers because they might not understand or see the importance of such a man. Older and more grown up viewers that appreciate movies like this, then I highly recommend this movie, crow was spectacular and well worth the buy and dvd.

Mind blowing entertainment - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

When I first saw this movie, I was walking out of the cinema contstantly thinking and I kept smiling...what a very well written movie. It is so awesome the first time you see it. I guarentee you will be asking yourself a bunch of questions and saying things like "What?" or "Ok, am I losing my mind?" its one of those thinker movies but after you see it the first time you can view it again just for the amazing talent in all areas esp with Russell Crowe for acting and Ron Howard for directing and you will be saying the name Akiva Goldsman with such praise...this is still my favorite movie EVER and it will be for a long time I think.

A "beautiful" film - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

John Nash's life story is very interesting and how he overcame his mental problems. The only thing I thought was wrong was that some things were inaccurate (like the impression Alicia Nash being American when she was from Central America), but the great parts of this movie make you forget it. This is a special film, everyone should watch it. It makes you realize that your life isn't so bad and everyone has their own problems.

A very beautiful mind... - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

Director Ron Howard has made another great movie. Russell Crowe whom had been great in Gladitator comes back even better in this story about Professor John Nash whom is a mathematics genius with very low social-skills and with a great twist, finds out that he is in fact dillusional. The movie is also powered by Jennifer Connelly whom deserves Best Actress and is very BEAUTIFUL! The movie is worth buying on DVD and should be on the the list of 100 Greatest American Movies.

A work of art! - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

I enjoyed this movie thoroughly. Jennifer Connelly and Russell Crowe both gave outstanding performances in this one. Crowe should've got the Oscar instead of Denzel Washington. His performance was simply awesome. The storyline was okay, typical of an Oscar film's, but Ron Howard did great in directing this film. This is definitely the kind of film I'd label "MUST-SEE"!

My all time favorite - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

this is the best movie i have ever seen in my life. i have seen it 8 times and i have never been tired of it. definitely worth seeing for the people who love biographical movies.A+++++

Overrated - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

Ah yes, another overrated movie praised by the old fogies at the Academy Awards. Once again, it is proven that critics will always like the most terrible movies and dismiss the best because they are either sci-fi or fantasy. Yes, I am an angry Lord of the Rings fan who felt, no KNEW Fellowship of the Ring should have taken best picture and best director. Peter Jackson made the "impossible" movie that all other directors were afraid to, and he made it a masterpiece. But at the time, Hollywood was madly in love with overrated actor Russel Crowe because he happened upon one good film, Gladiator. Hey, I'm not worried though, LOTR fans will get their revenge with Return of the King.

Beware: this movie may cause suicidal impulses. - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

This movie seemed enticing and thrilling in previews, but like shallow people, once the first layer is peeled off there is nothing left to reveal, leaving the viewers feeling bored and cheated out of eight bucks. Russell Crowe may be a fine actor, but not in this role. First of all, it is simply not feasible to have him start as a 20 or even 30 some year old. Secondly, because of his thick Austrialian accent, he is unable to pose realistically as a native of mid-Southern United States. Also his love scenes with Jennifer Connelly made me literally feel physically ill-they do not belong together onscreen. Overall this movie was slow, insipid, and painful to watch.

Great body covering a weak mind=a beautiful mind - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

A Beautiful Mind is not a great movie, certainly not 2001's best film, but it's a respectable effort from director Ron Howard, and especially writer Akiva Goldsman, who was partially responsible for the travesty that was Batman and Robin. This biographical drama focuses on the life of John Nash, the genius who developed a radical concept on game theory. I'd rather not say further about the story, since there's a big plot twist halfway through that definitely puts a spin on much of the material that came before it. As most have heard, A Beautiful Mind is largely inaccurate in its depiction of John Nash's life. Did I really care? Not particularly. I'd be a fool to expect a film based on facts to adhere entirely to the truth. Rather, I'm basing my opinion on how well-crafted the movie is, and how well it succeeded on what it was trying to be, that is, a film meant to inspire with its theme of love (and besides, I seriously doubt all the indiscretions of Nash's life would mesh well with that, so I'm wondering if the film's detractors really want to see all of Nash's odd behavior portrayed or if they're just looking for something to complain about). So how does this film come across as a feel good drama? Not bad. First off, I'd like to mention that Ron Howard's direction and Goldsman's screenwriting are easily the film's weakest points, and not deserving of the Oscars they received. As has been evident in previous works, Howard is not a master of subtlety, and as best as he tries, he obviously doesn't have a firm grasp of what's genuinely good drama. A lot of the film's emotional moments are overdone and pure Hollywood; there's typical shouting, crying, and glass-breaking, nothing I haven't seen before. While I have a lot to complain about Howard's direction, he's fine when it comes to pacing and style, and yes, the film itself does look very lovely and polished. Definitely by far the film's weakest segment is in the last ten or so minutes, when we witness Nash age and receive his nobel prize. That alone doesn't sound so awful, but unfortunately, we get a speech that lamely hammers home the movie's message, that of how we must rely on emotion and love over cold intellect to solve our problems and survive in this world. It had already seemed obvious that was what the film had been striving to say throughout its rather lengthy running time, and I sure as hell didn't need Howard to blindly forcefeed the theme in such a manner. Since I've done nothing but complain up to this point, you might wonder why it is I didn't give this film a lower rating. The answer's simple. This all works thanks to Russell Crowe as John Nash and Jennifer Connelly as his wife, particularly the latter, who delivers a magnificent performance worthy of far more screen time (it's all the more disappointing to see that we never even find out what she does for a living, considering she was the one supporting Nash in his later, troubled years). Crowe is in fine form in the lead, both sympathetic and likeable, though some of his tics seem more like obvious attempts at acting rather than genuine eccentric behavior. It's unfortunate the love story between Nash and Alicia isn't even given any sense of build up, she just asks him out without even a hint of a reason for why she finds him attractive (well, Nash here does look like hunky Russell Crowe). Schizophrenia is a disease that's dealt with in the film. I've never studied up much on it, though on my paltry knowledge alone, I probably know far more than most Hollywood (most often, as in the case with Me, Myself, and Irene, filmmakers seem to think schizophrenia is just another term for multiple identity disorder). (moderate spoiler) I don't know how accurate A Beautiful Mind's portrayal of this mental illness is, but the Nash in the movie hardly seems like a true "loony," and the film makes the disease seem a bit easier to handle than it probably is (Nash sees a few people who aren't there, and at one point, even reasons that they can't be there). Much like the rest of the film, the handling of this topic feels Hollywood, but also like the rest of the film, it's handled competently and in an occasionally riveting fasion.

Unacceptable - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

This movie has very little to do with the real John Nash. It is deceptive, in that it pretends to be a biography.

Drab on color, but bright with emotion - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

Ron Howard's direction here is really good. It always helps when a director can get a good script and a handful of great actors too. Ed Harris is so creepy here, you'll be looking over your shoulder too.

A beatufil time to doze off - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

Slow and unimaginative beginning, mediocre body, and a poor ending- The movie not only failed to tell the story of John Nash, but it failed to be interesting! After the brilliant but asocial mathematician John Forbes Nash (played by Russell Crowe) accepts secret work in cryptography, his life takes a nightmarish turn. He finds himself battling schizophrenia, trying to keep his relationship with Alicia Nash (played by Jennifer Connelly) alive, and struggling to find his way back into sanity. Yet, throughout all of it, he's able to win the Nobel Prize. I won't pretend to be an expert on the life of John Nash, but I do it was darker and more bizarre than what the movie tried to exhibit. In many books and articles, he is described as tortured and heavily depressed. In the film, Russell Crowe failed to uphold that description. Also, the story didn't play in favor to the actual story of John Nash. It was more fiction than biography. In addition to being more like fiction, it was hella boring. I mean if they wee going to change certain elements of the story, they could have done a way better job. For example, focusing in on how his condition affected the lives of others. They touched on how it affected Alicia, but not much. And they could have mad ea scene where John sort of reflects on the aftermath of this past condition, but they don't. Fiction without a cause. The only thing that truly saved this move from complete failure was Jennifer Connelly and the story that revolved around her character, Alicia. Connelly gave an award winning performance in this film- unlike anybody else in the film, she actually brought her character to life. Overall, I'd give this film a C+. It?s one of the most overrated films that it has ever been my misfortune to see.

Better then gladiator - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

Russell Crowes best work, by far amazing, beautiful a great story about a great man John Nash. Ron Howard proves himself again. i line this with Appolo 13 and Far And Away his best work.

My favorite movie of all time. - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

I'm a big fan of psychology, as well as having an above average understanding of mathematics. This movie absolutly amazed me. It made me cry...that's something that doesn't happen very often. It deserves every oscar it gone, and then some. I higly recommend this movie to all.

Beautiful mind - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

Russell Crowe plays John Nash, a Nobel prize winner of solving mathematics. He sometimes has problems of seeing things that other people can't see. He is suffering some kind of mental illness. Jennifer Connelly marries him during her school year. She helps her own husband by seeing a doctor or psycharist to solve his problem. The movie is memorable. A smart film for mathematician. Jennifer Connelly at her best!

Amazing depiction of an amazing autobiography! - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

This movie follows the harsh life of the brilliant mathematician John Forbes Nash Jr. He not only struggles to find an original idea to get recognition from his colleages, but also against the harsh mental illness, Schizophrenia. It is hard for his wife to deal with her husbands disease, but it becomes even more difficult when she cannot leave him alone with their baby. I won't lie, this is a chick flick, but it is also an inspiring tale of an amazing and brilliant person.

It is, well, beautiful - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

The title says it all: A Beautiful Mind is a beautiful movie. After hearing how many Oscars it won, I thought I would see it and decide whether or not I liked it. I can understand why it won so many awards now. The storyline is superb, and Crowe plays an excellent role. As for the people who trashed it, well, movies can't all be about sex and violence. While they are fun to watch, it's nice to see some thought-provoking movies once in awhile.

Clearly not the best movie of 2001! - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

Biographical outlook at John Forbes Nash Jr., enigmatic mathematician, aided cryptographer to the government and acclaimed Nobel Prize affiliate. A gifted genius in the study of mathematics, Nash [Russell Crowe] redefined the field with his breakthrough discovery that shot him to international stature. An aggressive temporal man by nature, Nash was sorely diagnosed with schizophrenia that causes mass hysteria and delusional paranoia. Americas favorite son Ron Howard good [not great] direction will earn him an Academy Award for Best Director, while Akiva Goldsman and Sylvia Nasar would also be rewarded with their sometimes inaccurate Adapted Screenplay. The casting is critically highlighted in this featured endeavor, as lead actor Russell Crowe Oscar nominated performance is very convincing in all aspects, as is Jennifer Connelly rendition of Nash estranged but formidable wife is credibly versatile and worthy of her Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Also noted is the under-rated but excellent performance of Ed Harris who?s portrayal of a talkatively illusion formed character who abruptly appears in Nash?s stage of schizophrenia that occur in various phases. A Beautiful Mind marks Russell Crowe third Academy Award nomination in a matter of three y

Um, this movie wasn't an "original idea"... - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

Russell Crowe plays John Forbes Nash, Jr., who received the 1994 Nobel Prize in Economic Science, but not before almost getting kicked out of Princeton's graduate program in the 1940s after a furtive search for his "one original idea" led him to miss classes, spurn his classmates, and generally neglect academic obligations. Nash faced another obstacle, which figures prominently in the story told by the film: Beginning in the 1950s, Nash became a paranoid schizophrenic -- a condition that went undiscovered for years, even as Nash launched on a stellar career as an elite mathematician. A BEAUTIFUL MIND is a grand movie in the way that it takes a clever cinematic hook (but not a groundbreaking one, though obvious references to other recent films that have used this device would give away too much) to draw us into the terrifying world of schizophrenia. In his weekly NEWSWEEK piece, columnist George F. Will waxed optimistic, hoping that the movie would also usher in increased compassion and empathy for schizophrenics. A BEAUTIFUL MIND's greatest asset toward this end is Crowe's humane and balanced performance. Crowe avoids the cheap, gushy psychological disorder movie-of-the-week exploits, which almost single-handedly prevents A BEAUTIFUL MIND from becoming a beautiful bore. The other thing that redeems this film is Ed Harris, strategically cast as a character whose credibility is crucial for the central technique to come off as the filmmakers intended. But, despite its likely salutary social impact, and solid performances from the cast, A BEAUTIFUL MIND is ultimately a very safe movie that takes no chances, and never goes out on a limb. Early on, Nash manages to stay in school by solving a classic unsolved problem relating to the proof for the isometric embeddability of abstract Riemannian manifolds in flat (or "Euclidean") spaces. Don't know what I'm talking about? Neither do I, and I saw the movie! BEAUTIFUL MIND assumes that Nash's brilliance can be assumed and then subsumed into the backdrop, without much of an attempt to make us understand what makes his ideas brilliant. The closest the movie comes to doing this is a scene in which Nash is taken into a room with sheets of seemingly random numbers plastered on the walls. But, Nash is able to see certain numbers "light up" from the swarm of digits and to see patterns in the random-appearing sequences. The movie might have used such cinematic techniques in a few more choice spots to help us better appreciate Nash's genius. With genius, of course, comes madness, and this is a thought that is intimated, but never addressed, far less fully explored by the movie. Nash himself has stated, "I would not dare to say that there is a direct relation between mathematics and madness, but there is no doubt that great mathematicians suffer from maniacal characteristics, delirium and symptoms of schizophrenia." In 1998, a movie called PI explored the obsessive-compulsive nature of mathematical research in ways never approximated by A BEAUTIFUL MIND. In the end, MIND is the inspirational triumph-against-adversity movie par excellence; a fault mitigated by the fact that the story is apparently true to a tee to John Forbes Nash, Jr.'s real life-story; by the execution of the film as standard mainstream fare; and by the resourceful use of its central story-telling device. (CAVEAT LECTOR: Most critics have assessed A BEAUTIFUL MIND much more generously than I have.) (Carlos Colorado)

The pain of rejection - a beautiful mind - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

It becomes evident, about halfway throught the film, A Beautiful Mind, that John Nash, Jr. is going to experience terrible heartbreak that not even his genius can distract him from. The beautiful scenery, which I enjoyed, can not even distract him. This is a film about male friendship more than it is about marriage. To watch John Nash's marriage to Jennifer Connelly's character fail is painful to watch. It would be nice to see Tobey Maguire or Christopher Maguire play the role of John Nash, Jr. in a few years. I recommend this film. - Film reviewed by Tamela Dawn Miles

"october sky" and "apollo 13" meet their match - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

Every once in a while a movie comes out that just shows how it is done. "A Beautiful Mind" is one such movie. The story of a mathematician who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia and the heroism of his wife, who stood by him through the good, the bad, and the ugly, was just awe-inspiring. From Princeton student to mental patient to Nobel Prize is unheard of for one life, and the portrayal of his life is absolutely excellent.

A beautiful movie!!! - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

What can be said about a beautiful mind? The acting is just amazing!! Jennifer and Russell are both outstanding!!! The story line is uplifting and encouraging!!!

A beautiful film - A Beautiful Mind Reviews

This is truly a beautiful film. I remember going to the theater to see it before any Academy Award nominations were posted and I also did not know anything of the story. I was amazed. Russell Crowe gave the performance of his life in the role of the Princeton student, schizophrenic patient and Nobel Prize winner--all the same person. "The sublime" Jennifer Connelly was captivating and believable and deserved the Oscar win. This film shows the power of the human spirit, the triumph of love and the wonder of true passion. Wonderful acting, beautiful filming, a great score by James Horner and powerful directing pull together to form the best picture of 2001 and an amazing story---a true cinematic masterpiece.
