Ron Howard brings us a love story about a real life Nobel Prize winning scientist John Nash.This movie is well delivered,at times mesmerizing,the story losely based on the real life of John Nash.At heart this is a well crafted,very griping and beautifuly acted love story.Russell Crowe recieved rave reviews as did Jennifer Connelly in her Oscar winning role,and for me at least I'am fully behind Connellys win as I felt she stole the show in many aspects and really is the glue that makes this movie work.After you watch A Beatiful Mind find yourself a copy of the biography film of John Nashs real life which is an incredible tale which at least equals the fictional story,both are absolute must sees!

schizophrenia as you've never seen it before in a film , i saw a documentary about the real john nash and his son who inherited the desease from his father and all i can tell is god bless any person suffering from this horrible desease. the movie is pretty realistic (forget about the farrely brothers's idea of schizophrenia in me myself and irene ). the cast did a wonderful job especially the leading couple connelly and crowe . "a beautiful mind" is one of my favourtie movies.

I give Russell Crow an A+ for his part in this film; He was simply amazing as a genus that has a disease that makes him create people that are not there. This fabulous story tells John Nash?s achievements, and struggles throughout his life. Very well told and entertaining the whole movie. This movie might not be good for younger viewers because they might not understand or see the importance of such a man. Older and more grown up viewers that appreciate movies like this, then I highly recommend this movie, crow was spectacular and well worth the buy and dvd.

When I first saw this movie, I was walking out of the cinema contstantly thinking and I kept smiling...what a very well written movie. It is so awesome the first time you see it. I guarentee you will be asking yourself a bunch of questions and saying things like "What?" or "Ok, am I losing my mind?" its one of those thinker movies but after you see it the first time you can view it again just for the amazing talent in all areas esp with Russell Crowe for acting and Ron Howard for directing and you will be saying the name Akiva Goldsman with such praise...this is still my favorite movie EVER and it will be for a long time I think.

The only thing I thought was wrong was that some things were inaccurate (like the impression Alicia Nash being American when she was from Central America), but the great parts of this movie make you forget it. Director Ron Howard has made another great movie. Russell Crowe whom had been great in Gladitator comes back even better in this story about Professor John Nash whom is a mathematics genius with very low social-skills and with a great twist, finds out that he is in fact dillusional. The movie is also powered by Jennifer Connelly whom deserves Best Actress and is very BEAUTIFUL! The movie is worth buying on DVD and should be on the the list of 100 Greatest American Movies.

I enjoyed this movie thoroughly. Jennifer Connelly and Russell Crowe both gave outstanding performances in this one. Crowe should've got the Oscar instead of Denzel Washington. His performance was simply awesome. The storyline was okay, typical of an Oscar film's, but Ron Howard did great in directing this film. This is definitely the kind of film I'd label "MUST-SEE"!

Ah yes, another overrated movie praised by the old fogies at the Academy Awards. Once again, it is proven that critics will always like the most terrible movies and dismiss the best because they are either sci-fi or fantasy. Yes, I am an angry Lord of the Rings fan who felt, no KNEW Fellowship of the Ring should have taken best picture and best director. Peter Jackson made the "impossible" movie that all other directors were afraid to, and he made it a masterpiece. But at the time, Hollywood was madly in love with overrated actor Russel Crowe because he happened upon one good film, Gladiator. Hey, I'm not worried though, LOTR fans will get their revenge with Return of the King.

This movie seemed enticing and thrilling in previews, but like shallow people, once the first layer is peeled off there is nothing left to reveal, leaving the viewers feeling bored and cheated out of eight bucks. Russell Crowe may be a fine actor, but not in this role. First of all, it is simply not feasible to have him start as a 20 or even 30 some year old. Secondly, because of his thick Austrialian accent, he is unable to pose realistically as a native of mid-Southern United States. Also his love scenes with Jennifer Connelly made me literally feel physically ill-they do not belong together onscreen. Overall this movie was slow, insipid, and painful to watch.

A Beautiful Mind is not a great movie, certainly not 2001's best film, but it's a respectable effort from director Ron Howard, and especially writer Akiva Goldsman, who was partially responsible for the travesty that was Batman and Robin. This biographical drama focuses on the life of John Nash, the genius who developed a radical concept on game theory. I'd rather not say further about the story, since there's a big plot twist halfway through that definitely puts a spin on much of the material that came before it. As most have heard, A Beautiful Mind is largely inaccurate in its depiction of John Nash's life. Did I really care? Not particularly. I'd be a fool to expect a film based on facts to adhere entirely to the truth. Rather, I'm basing my opinion on how well-crafted the movie is, and how well it succeeded on what it was trying to be, that is, a film meant to inspire with its theme of love (and besides, I seriously doubt all the indiscretions of Nash's life would mesh well with that, so I'm wondering if the film's detractors really want to see all of Nash's odd behavior portrayed or if they're just looking for something to complain about). So how does this film come across as a feel good drama? Not bad. First off, I'd like to mention that Ron Howard's direction and Goldsman's screenwriting are easily the film's weakest points, and not deserving of the Oscars they received. As has been evident in previous works, Howard is not a master of subtlety, and as best as he tries, he obviously doesn't have a firm grasp of what's genuinely good drama. A lot of the film's emotional moments are overdone and pure Hollywood; there's typical shouting, crying, and glass-breaking, nothing I haven't seen before. While I have a lot to complain about Howard's direction, he's fine when it comes to pacing and style, and yes, the film itself does look very lovely and polished. Definitely by far the film's weakest segment is in the last ten or so minutes, when we witness Nash age and receive his nobel prize. That alone doesn't sound so awful, but unfortunately, we get a speech that lamely hammers home the movie's message, that of how we must rely on emotion and love over cold intellect to solve our problems and survive in this world. It had already seemed obvious that was what the film had been striving to say throughout its rather lengthy running time, and I sure as hell didn't need Howard to blindly forcefeed the theme in such a manner. Since I've done nothing but complain up to this point, you might wonder why it is I didn't give this film a lower rating. The answer's simple. This all works thanks to Russell Crowe as John Nash and Jennifer Connelly as his wife, particularly the latter, who delivers a magnificent performance worthy of far more screen time (it's all the more disappointing to see that we never even find out what she does for a living, considering she was the one supporting Nash in his later, troubled years). Crowe is in fine form in the lead, both sympathetic and likeable, though some of his tics seem more like obvious attempts at acting rather than genuine eccentric behavior. It's unfortunate the love story between Nash and Alicia isn't even given any sense of build up, she just asks him out without even a hint of a reason for why she finds him attractive (well, Nash here does look like hunky Russell Crowe). Schizophrenia is a disease that's dealt with in the film. I've never studied up much on it, though on my paltry knowledge alone, I probably know far more than most Hollywood (most often, as in the case with Me, Myself, and Irene, filmmakers seem to think schizophrenia is just another term for multiple identity disorder). (moderate spoiler) I don't know how accurate A Beautiful Mind's portrayal of this mental illness is, but the Nash in the movie hardly seems like a true "loony," and the film makes the disease seem a bit easier to handle than it probably is (Nash sees a few people who aren't there, and at one point, even reasons that they can't be there). Much like the rest of the film, the handling of this topic feels Hollywood, but also like the rest of the film, it's handled competently and in an occasionally riveting fasion.
